Michael L. Cherry Memorial Scholarship

The Black Engineers Society and CMSE wish to invite you to apply for the Michael L. Cherry Memorial Scholarship.

Michael Cherry, a 1984 Electrical Engineering graduate of the University of Maryland, was killed in an automobile accident on October 29, 1985. He is remembered for his persistence and hard work when he had to commute from his home in Baltimore to a full time job in College Park, all while pursuing his engineering degree as a full time student at the University of Maryland. These hardships never stopped him from showing a profound dedication to helping others along the way. Whether it was his love and passion for teaching and playing basketball, or the time he would take to tutor and inspire students in their studies of the game of both life and Engineering, Mike cared. When the Black Engineers Society needed someone to help, they knew they could always count on him. I am sure all of his friends can remember him in much more personal ways, but the scholarship is our way of saying thanks for the contributions he made to the lives of the people who spent time with him. The scholarship award of $1000.00 will be awarded to an individual who best exemplifies some of the qualities Michael manifested during his brief sojourn through the lives of those who remember him.
